Siemens Energy Austria: Groundbreaking technologies from Linz for the global energy supply

Siemens Energy Austria stands for cutting-edge technology and social responsibility in the field of energy technology. At its historic Linz site, which has been in operation for over 100 years, the company manufactures medium-power transformers up to 250 MVA. Around 500 highly qualified employees work at the site, helping to continue the company’s success story, which spans more than 100 years. In a joint discussion with Martin Sigmund, Vice President of Medium Power Transformers at Siemens Energy Austria, the City of Linz’s Department of Economy and Innovation learnt more about this forward-looking technology.

Siemens Energy is a global group with over 100,000 employees in 90 countries. The Linz site has an international character, with the majority of its production being exported – primarily to North America and Europe, but also to the Middle East, Asia and Africa. English is the corporate language, whilst German is also spoken at the Linz site. “The company sees itself as a reliable partner for resilient and secure energy solutions.”

“The products developed and manufactured in Linz are used in places where grids are particularly complex and critical – for example, in major cities such as New York City, where millions of people rely on a stable electricity supply,” explains Martin Sigmund.
