Right of residence

If you have or plan to have your main residence in Linz, the Department of Residence Law in the Citizens' Affairs Division is responsible.

Business Immigration Office 

Since June 2023, there has been a competence center for companies and their key foreign employees in the New City Hall with the aim of processing the Red-White-Red Card procedure in a particularly service-oriented and speedy manner. All expats who have already registered their main place of residence in Linz, or are planning to do so, will find the right contact persons in the Residence Law Department of the newly established Business Immigration Office (BIOL).

Citizens' Service

The Citizens' Service on the ground floor of the New City Hall offers a versatile service, advice and information center that combines a wide range of services from various offices under one roof. It serves as a central point of contact for Linz citizens to quickly and easily deal with administrative procedures and clarify inquiries and concerns regarding the city of Linz.

Women's Office

The Women's Office in Linz is committed to politically implementing the concerns and needs of female residents. It offers targeted measures to raise awareness, provide information and sensitize people to women's issues. Its tasks include the implementation of gender equality policy goals, representation of interests, project support and the organization of events.

Official representative for equal treatment

As the provincial capital, Linz is making a clear statement about strengthening and promoting the LGBTIQ community, i.e. people with different identities, gender characteristics or sexual orientations. There are various support services in Linz that are provided by associations, organizations and institutions.

Integration office

The Integration Office of the City of Linz supports migrants in their integration into society. This includes advice, language courses, cultural events and the promotion of intercultural interaction.

Children and Youth Services

Together with private providers, full provision is guaranteed in the kindergarten and after-school care sector in Linz. After-school care centers are open all year round and childcare facilities for children under the age of 3 are constantly being expanded. There are advice centers for young people and families in the city districts with specific events on offer.

Registry office

The employees of the registry office enter civil status data into the Central Civil Status and Citizenship Register. All matters, including certificates, proof of citizenship, banns and name determinations, can be dealt with at any registry office in Austria. An exception is the registration of a newborn child, which must be carried out at the registry office of the place of birth. It is also possible to order civil status certificates online.

Adult Education Center

The adult education center, the city library, the LeWis learning center and the DORFTV Lab can be found in the Wissensturm Linz, very close to the main train station. The course program covers all areas of adult education: languages, society, lifelong learning, health, nutrition, sport, nature, technology, culture, creativity and there is also an extensive range of courses for children and young people.

Austrian Business Agency (ABA)

The Austrian Business Agency (ABA) is Austria's national investment promotion agency. It supports international companies in establishing a presence in Austria and offers comprehensive advisory services. The ABA provides information about Austria as a business location and advises companies.

The main tasks of the ABA include:

• Invest in Austria: Supporting companies in setting up or expanding their business operations in Austria
• Work in Austria: Assisting Austrian companies in finding highly qualified international professionals
• Film in Austria: Promoting Austria as an attractive location for film productions and supporting film projects in the country

Teach For Austria brings dedicated university graduates and career changers to where they are needed most – as inspiring teachers in schools facing great challenges.

Afterwards, many continue as education ambassadors, actively shaping the education system for the long term.

Finanzverein.at

Finanzverein.at is a financial literacy initiative aimed at supporting people in Austria in making informed financial decisions. Practical knowledge on topics such as retirement planning, investments, and insurance is conveyed through workshops, consultations, and informational materials.

Ombud for Equal Treatment

The Ombud for Equal Treatment is an independent, state institution in Austria that works to protect and promote equal treatment. It supports individuals who have experienced discrimination, provides advice on equal treatment issues, and contributes to raising awareness about anti-discrimination in society. The Ombud for Equal Treatment assists people who have faced discrimination based on the grounds listed in the Equal Treatment Act (GlBG), such as gender, ethnicity, religion or belief, age or sexual orientation.

AST - Contact point for professional qualifications gained abroad

The main tasks of the AST at the company migrare include:

• Counselling regarding the recognition of your qualifications
• Clarification if the formal recognition is needed and/or possible in your case
• Attendance during recognition proceedings
• Forwarding your diplomas to a centre of evaluation
• Information about further education and counselling options

Chamber of Labor (AK)

The Chamber of Labor provides direct services and advice on employment, social affairs, education and consumer protection, as well as legal and social information. The Chamber of Labour also organises further education and training and represents the interests of the employees. The Chamber is also responsible for labour law, employee protection, social security issues and more.

Public Employment Service Austria (AMS)

The AMS provides help and advice on all personnel matters. The AMS provides personal and comprehensive information and advice - from personnel planning and subsidies to finding suitable employees. If you want to find out about financial support for your company, you are also in the right place.
